removed mine yesterday to get to the fuel tank. not to hard, jack and support rear end and remove wheels. remove exhaust and rear prop shaft, left and right hand drive shafts.undo clamps holding hand brake cable to subframe. support subframe with a trolly jack, 4 main bolts (18mm) to undo. took about 2 hours.

it seems like it is part of the diff (unfortunately) so I thought it mite be best to mod the subframe to take the complete slitty diff.
If yu look at the third pick - it is the device called "electric coupling". It mite be possible to fit it in place of the VCU, but it would need checking out proper like.

Nissan's ATTESA E-TS , an electronically controlled, torque- split 4WD system.

the freelander diff weighs about 32lbs, or 14.5 kgs. Ratio is the same as all of them, 3.21.
How come I seen 3 hippoos tonite with the following tyre sizes......
235/60R18
225/55R17
195/80R15

Nissan X-Trail Diff ratio is 2.466
tyre size 215/65/16

the overall dia. of the tyre are
195/80 15=27.3

225/55 17=26.7

235/60 18=29.1
so the first two have approx the same overall diameter but that last one seems a mite out. are you sure you got the right size?

if it was 235/50 then it would be 27.3 overall dia

or 235/45 would be 26.3
of course i dunt even know if they make tyres in these sizes

of course the last size might have been put on by a **** cos they think it looks good.

the 215/65 16=27

now the good bit

27.3 x 3.21 = 87.633in

26.7 x 3.21 = 85.707in

29.1 x 3.21 = 93.411in

yer slitty will be

27 x 2.466 = 66.582in

so yud have to put a different size tyre on yer slitty diff to get the speeds the same

something around 34in dia which will be massive ah think

The prob as I see it is, if the hippoo has a rear diff of 3.2 ratio and the nissan is 2.5, if the same hippoo wheels/tyres are being used front and rear, then the tyres are going to be continually scrubbing (like a locked VCU) and it will blow the IRD to bits. So - back to the drawing board (sorta) need to find a different diff ratio methinks on a nissan 4wd.
