Rear Shock Absorber Bushes Poly?

Hi All,

Bought a set of Brtpart Poly Bushes a while back and just about to start to change Rear Shocks on my Puma 110. Opened box and the Poly Bush Upper come in 2 halves perfect for fitting, once I get rubber ones off shocks. Question is, the bag with the Poly bushes in(NRC5593PY - black) doesn’t have metal collar like the rubber ones I intend to remove. Is this correct and is it due to the poly bushes being stronger, so don’t need metal centre collar/core?

Thanks for responses. Getting confused now, just contacted supplier and they’re advising, due to make up of poly bushes there is no need for a metal sleeve to be fitted???

This is nonsense. A bush, whether rubber or poly should be sleeved in this application where there's a component with arc of movement through the centreline; unless it's for short use only. If not, the primary component directly wears out the bush, as opposed to the inner sleeve.The sleeve is there to 1. provide central mechanical support to the bush, 2. keep the bush parallel in relation to its function, 3. act as a sacrificial part between primary metal component and bush :. enabling bush longevity. There's a reason why poly bushes have a poor reputation...it's because most are crap and produced for the bling market. There are only a few manufacturers out there that produce carefully designed/high quality components, i.e. SuperPro, Whiteline, PowerFlex...

Personally, I'd send back the Britpart and buy SuperPro. Upon installation be sure to use good amounts of grease to all parts.

I had a problem with my 90 TD5 eating rear shock bushes, so went for the poly bushes... re-used old metal collars/ washers.... no more clunking, and lasting well.

We are talking about shock bushes, specifically the rear? The oem rubber bushes are not sleeved, the bottom just fits over the shock spike and the top is egg timer shaped and fits over the shock bracket I cannot see how changing to polly would be any different.

Also if they were sleeved in this instance the sleeve would just rust onto the bottom of the shock or the mounting bracket meaning it was not possible to remove without damage to these parts. regardless of how much grease is used in assembly i seem to always have to cut off at least one of the bolts on a sleeved bush weather poly or oem. My understanding (possible incorrect) was the sleeves were for when a bush was under compression and prevented over distortion of the bushing (e.g. lower radius arms, series leaf springs etc)?

Ive a set of rubber britpart bushes here that look just like that....the top bush has a metal sleeve....making it almost impossible to fit :)

Did a bit of emailing and the 5 suppliers of said Poly Bushes when asked, “do you need a metal centre sleeve for these?” Response was “No, as they are Poly Bushes!” So clear as mud, suppliers vs real life Landy drivers and tinkerers!
