Rear seat heating?????

Hi all,
please can someone shed some light on this subject.
Recently bought P38 4.0 se and all seems fine for a few niggles.

when using the heating everything is working fine heats up cools down blows in all directions the only problem is i cant to seem to get any air blowing out of the rear vents.

people in the back say its cold but we are red hot in the front trying to warm them up???

is there a pipe that could be off or is it probably knackered.

the other thing is that when you put the neating fan on to full speed it is very noisy, is there some form of bearing or motor that could be on its way out,. if so should i avoid full blast at all times

Select just the face vents and then shut off all the front face vents and then see if you can feel any air coming out of the rear ones (the ones on the back of the centre console). If you cant feel any air are the vents open?? Is there any handbook symbol on the HeVAC control??

To be honest the rear vents for the back are pretty crap and ive never had much air come through mine and I know for a fact all the ducts are free of obstacles and my blend motors are good (well, the distribution one is anyway, my left hand blend one is stuck in HI at the mo ). Ive had good air flow through them when going at around 70mph down the motorway, this is because the air is blowing in through the front as well as the blowers blowing.

Secondly, the loud blower motors, my drivers side one is a bit noisy sometimes, its a loose screw that holds the blower on(?) to whatever its held on to. There are some goldish coloured looking screws that attach it to whatever its attached to and tightening these will hopefully solve your problem. Some prat in the past has tightened mine too much and stripped the screw thread and I havent got round to repairing it yet.

no idea where to look is it quite a difficult job, if so i`ll probably pass on this one

ok, does the handbook symbol come on AS SOON as you start the vehicle?? If not how long does it take for the symbol to show??

With just the face vents selected do you get air coming out of anywhere else, such as footwells, windscreen etc??

As for the screws - you will need to get into the dash, yes. This isnt difficult at all, it all depends on which side you need to access. There are basically two motors, one each side. To access the drivers side one, pull the steering wheel out towards the rear as far as possible and then remove the 2 little screws that are at an angle at the bottom of the instrument binnacle surround (they basically hold the top of the panel thats above the drivers knees so it doesnt vibrate). Next pop off the 4 screw covers on the panel above the drivers knees and remove the 4 large screws holding the panel on. The panel will now drop down - be very careful when doing this and dont damage the pipe that feeds the vent in the panel. You will now see the blower motor. Its round and at the edge you will see 3 screws if i remember correctly, make sure these are all tight.

If its the passenger side then you will need to remove the 5 screws on the glovebox surround and drop it down to access the blower motor. You will find the same screws again, make sure these are tight.

If you are worried about doing any of this I suggest you find a good specialist to help you out. He will also have the diagnostic gear to tell you why your handbook symbol is on.

hmmm, looks like i shall be back under my dash this weekend then Wonder why I could only spot three. Is one well hidden up at the top??
