Rear prop removal

Hi Guy

I may have a probelm with my VCU. have been advised from some guys who were testing the new Range Rover to remove the rear prop. How easy is this any advise??
 
The bolt heads on the prop flanges are torx and the nuts metric, easier to spanner off the nuts as they are bigger than the bolt heads if you don't have torx spanners/sockets. You will also have to turn the rear wheels so you can get to the top diff flange bolts (just a point to remember if you have the car on DIY ramps). Dropped my props and VCU off a few weeks ago for the same reasons that you have, my intention is to fit a recon VCU when I get the chance but the increase in performance and improved MPG suggests that I wait until the bad weather. You should inform your insurer as this will be classed as a modification and could result in higher premiums or a rejection of any claim (if you don't).
 
Does removing the prop make a big difference to performance and fuel?

Err yes and no

It frees up the power on the k-series, cant speak for the diesels, goes well off the lights better acceleration with more lift. The ickle 1.8 will give the RR sports a run for their money....not kidding!

Fuel economy should increase by 20% or so (I speak for the earlier diff ratio model), but then you'll find you tend to put the foot more due to increase in power at the front wheels............better grin factor :D back to poorer performance :eek:

Faster auto gear changes and goes like whatsit off a shovel if you keep your foot down to the floor but, of course this affects the improved mpg and also makes the Wife complain. MPG before removing the prop max 31 after max 36, both figures with the EGR bypass fitted.
