I've got old 1992 landrover 90 defender 200 tdi (van) - lovely brilliant thing -
2 probs
1) rear door lock doesn't lock for some reason
2) rear door handle (black metal bit) has snapped

Can I just get a replacement black metal handle? if so any ideas where from?

If i need to replace the whole door handle lock unit, is this a job for non diy-er plus do these door handle lock units come with keys etc - not clear when looking at door handle lock parts. Is it best to get a proper landrover part or replica?? - any advice appreciated

Get a new lock , the barrel and keys do not come with it. I replaced mine recently and got them in Paddocks , I got 3 barrels and keys for them while I was at it because the passanger door lock had half a key stuck in it. I changed all three door locks so one key will fit all and it took me 3 or 4 hours. The back door is the easiest though half an hour maybe.
The bits cost me £40 or there abouts.

Doesn't lock? Could be the spring has gone. Does the little lock catch on the inside fall straight down if you try and put it up?

Mine is like that, I fixed it by putting some masking tape around the little catch so that when it goes up it becomes tight in the slot due to the tape around it and stays there - works until I can get a new one. :D

The kit on the bay is £4.50 and takes half hour to fit as I did my mates last week. You could lock his door but when you turned the key back to the middle to take it out the door would unlock or when you went over any bumps the door would lock/unlock itself.
