Are the rear door check straps interchangeable or does it depend on the rear door you have?

I currently have the early style manual release latch check strap on my rear door

Can this be swapped for the later style torsion spring check strap or do I need to swap the door over for it to fit in the door
Channel?

Although a new door is on the list, finances after Christmas mean that will be later in the year. I am also reactant to take the door card off to investigate as it will just disintegrate as it is the original one and is already in poor shape. a new puppy means no door card is not an option as the wiper motor and cabling will immediately become the new chew toy!
I am trying to gather all the parts together to do it all in one go, door card, check strap, spring etc.

Can’t answer your question, but have you considered ‘upgrading’ to a gas strut? I did when I refurbed the rear end - should have bought one years ago! No more door closing when parked on a hill or when the wind catches it!

I have never considered that. But the plan will be to fit the swing away that I have with a 265/75 bfg same as I had before. I would be worried a gas strut strong enough to hold that is stronger than the Ali it would be bolted to on the tub.

A sheet of ply works as a door card ...

Best Door card, also strengthens door.
That is what I have on my old door and plan to fit when I get a new door. But may get it early and got to this one in the meantime. I can’t find anywhere selling the cover for the check strap and the wiper though. Only the flat panel.

Which one did you fit?
There are plenty of others available, I chose this one for the cheap price and I have no complaints about it whatsoever.

I folded the wiper motor cover myself and cut a top plate to suit, couple of little pop rivet brackets hold the two parts together.
Open at the bottom. No cover on check strap.

There was a comment on the strut (on your link) about bending when fully opened. Is that something you find or might it have been an installation issue?

My other one is the opposite. I have the original plastic wiper cover and the check strap is boxed in. I was looking at folding one up myself if I couldn't find any with the door card. Shouldn't be too difficult. Just need to work out if I can change the check strap or if I need to wait until I have a new door.

I have one of these (complete) somewhere.
I took it off my car when it first arrived so I could repair the door frame.
I didn't put the spare back on and got a Mud Stuff plastic cover which has been good.

I'll see if I can find it and post a pic.
If it is going to be available for sale I would certainly be interested.
