My rear diff pan is leaking where it has been hit on something and then rusted at the crease caused. I have a replacement to weld on (and a bolt on diff guard) and am going to be replacing the springs shortly so will do it at the same time and completely remove the axle to make the job easier.
To do the job I am going to remove the diff so there is no risk of damage from the cutting and grinding and to keep it clean. Is this as simple as pulling the rear half shafts and and unbolting the diff?
Similarly other than a new diff gasket do i need an other new parts for the refit?

Yep, if you're leaving everything else on the ends you've covered it. Stuff in old rags to stop swarf getting up the tubular parts. I use Hylomar on the diff gasket.

Much appreciated, it just seemed a little straight forward to e the correct procedure. I will stuff it with rag, and probably still wash it out with oil and do a very short oil change once refitted, but seems to be quite a straight forward job

It already leaks, as long as it leaks from a different place I will consider it a success!!
