Rear Diff Top-Up Plug

Is a leaky top-up plug on the rear diff a common problem? On a long journey the bottom half of the 110 back door ends up coated in a fine film of oil. I'm assuming the diff is the source of the oil slick, but I can' see where it's coming from on the diff...

I did tighten the plug, it felt like if I cranked it round any more it would end up falling inside . Worth trying PTFE tape or something on the threads ?

have you checked the tranny brake for signs of oil

or the pinion oil seal?

It's deff the diff, just can't see exactly where...

give it proper good wash, dry it, take it for a spin and see if you can find it then.

split in diff breather pipe?

so if its definately the diff why cant ya see it?
the diff aint exactly big to see where oil is leaking from

bet the diff pan is rusty and oil is leaking from pin-holes

on a disco yes but never had it on a salisbury
