Freelander 1 Rear Diff Mounts how much is to much play?

So yesterday I was underneath having a look round for the mot and apart from about a 2 inch rust hole in the fuel tank cradle all seemed ok .I have read a lot about the rear diff mounts on here and being as I have a vibration on my car some were I tried to see how much play the rear diff has , I could push it up about 2 inches . Dose this sound about right?

The rear diff should move 1/2" in its rubber mounts. More than that indicates the bush or bushes have failed. The front bush fails first, then the nearside rear.

Thank you nodge so if the mounts are on the way out could I get vibration through the peddles/seat

Normally vibration through the floor/ seat has its origins in or around the VCU. So check the bearing rubber supports and the mass damper for delamination.

A failed rear diff mount normally produces a thump from the rear under acceleration, if a wheel hits a bump of something.

By saying mass damper for delamination. am I right in thinking that is the one in the steering wheel ?if so I don't think it is that because it is coming through the peddles as well

No he means the one on the VCU (The big thing in the middle of the prop shaft underneath the car about half way along the underside)
