Rear diff getting hot

check ya VCU 0 it cud be seized and its windin up ya diff causing alot of pressure and thereby increasing the oil temp. Its worth doing anyroadup.

do the tipex test. . . .
I have put a mark on as i had tyre issues which are now sorted, i marked front prop vcu unit and rear prop in one line, couple of miles later i have movemnt on the line so i presume alls well with the vcu, maybe its me being paranoid as have only had front wheel drive cars before LOL

fook me! i int heard that line fer atleast ..........a week...
actually int been proven at some university that people that use the phrase get a life( or any version of it) have actually lead a very sheltered and restricted lifestyle. which is further proven by their lack of orginallity and the need to laugh at things they type on to internet forums which manifests itself it the dumb use of LOL and so on.
oh and MHM is our internet warrior on here which is you read any post/freds before joining you would have been aware of.

vcu's ok then. . . .keep an eye on the rear diff as it do's get warm but not hot. . . .sure its got oil un the correct stuff? . . . .

Get the right oil in the diff first.
Warm is good. The oil thins and there's less friction.
HOT is bad, but how hot was hot?
If you spit on the casing and it sizzles it is WAY too hot.
If it is heating up at all make sure the vent pipe is clear or you may end up blowing axle end seals and dumping the oil in the brakes.
The rear axle should probably never got too hot to hold your hand on unless possibly in very warm weather and a long drive.

I just noticed you said it was a month old.
MY ADVICE:
Write a short letter to the selling dealer and tell him you think the rear axle is getting far too hot. Keep a copy of then letter. Deliver the letter by hand to the dealer, and have someone with you when you do it.
DEMAND they deal with this IMMEDIATELY under warranty, and if there's an argument tell them you want another car as this one is goosed. Then contact LandRover warranty direct.
At one month old I can say that I would be very concerned that the axle is badly made , or badly assembled, and is overheating as a result of excess pressures between critcal parts such as crownwheel and pinion, od the main diff bearings being set far too tight.
I've seen an axle that got so hot it went on fire.
