Rear bumper choices

I took the old rear bumper off and found the plastic had split and the metal behind was beyond repair. So I need to replace it. I can see old ones for £200 or £300 on ebay, which seems a lot of money. And I hate all that plastic!

I would rather something simpler and solid. The Terrafirma looks the job, but is expensive and currently out of stock. So has anyone fitted a different steel bumper, such as from a Defender, or the front bumper from a Series 3, or fabricated one? What adaptation would be required?

She's a 1998 P38 diesel.

If you have an automatic and fit the terrafirma front bumper or similar you would need to relocate the auto box cooler as it sticks out

Just the rear bumper for the moment...
