What did I do with my Range Rover yesterday? An evening out with my partner to Margate, car running ok, no noticeable lack of performance, got home after e nifty run along the 20/M20, got home and as I walked past the back of the car noticed the offside rear brake was rather warm", not glowing red yet, but very hot. Presumably this is likely to be a caliper sticking o maybe the park brake sticking? Is it a fairly easy job to take the read brake gear off? I'm only used to doning old buses which usualy reyuire a big hammer, heat, and WD 40 to shift stuck brake parts. I'm not sure how to unwind the park brake.
I had a look on the car's MoT history and it appears to have had some brake problems at MoT 2-3 years ago. I've noticed the mpg has gone from 28.4 down to about 26.1, which I put don to having the heated seats and steering wheel on as it's been bloody cold round here. But maybe not.

Yes.

Its only like a standard disc setup and a standard drum setup together. So nothing special.

The handbrake is adjusted through a little hole in the face of the drum part visible once the wheel is removed.

Dont unwind the handbrake to much as it could then have to much slack for the module to take up and you could end up jamming it (then it gets expensive).

Caliper slides are a favourite on disc brakes, if this one is tight they will all need a strip and lube, easy peasy job.

Park brake shoe adjuster is top one side and bottom the other side, sorry never can remember which side!

I worked with a fitter in a bus depot when I was 19,he was 63 then around 33 yrs ago. They would use copper grease as an emergency grease for wheel bearings on the buses😵

Wd40 is pure dog crap.
I just put ordinary grease on the sliders.
Do check that the piston retracts nice and smoothly as it could also be a genuine caliper fault.
Depends what you call ordinary grease and if the sliders have rubber boots or not.. if they swell, can stop them sliding

You can get special grease for the sliders as it doesn't break down the rubber👍
