Hey everyone, I'm after a bit of advice as I've got an issue with a noise coming from my rear passenger side wheel.

Long story short, to my horror when changing tyres one of my wheel nuts was held on by...blue tac . Fast forward ordering a new wheel stud and having it fitted via my local 4x4 specialists I now have a noisy rear wheel with the rear brake hub warming up after driving the car. It's not excessively warm but still warm if that makes sense.

There's no play on the bearings etc but my word the noise is driving me insane when in the car. I've also just had all the brakes on the car checked over and they are working perfectly.

Ironically the local garage couldn't hear the noise... but it's there.

Any ideas.

Thanks

My guess is they took the hub flange off to change the stud, which destroyed the wheel bearing. Or they used the wrong technique for removing the broken stud, also damaging the bearing. Not much of a specialist really.
It now needs a new bearing, preferably fitted by someone who knows what they are doing, or at least can follow the bloody manual.

Yeah this was my first initial thought. . Would the bearing be damaged with no play in the wheel?

Final question - price on a wheel bearing fit? I'm finding out people don't really like working on these motors .

Yes, it's possible for it to make a noise, and have no play.

It shouldn't be more than £150 all in.
I don't know why people won't work on the Freelander, it's no more difficult to change a wheel bearing on it than any other car. It's even a DIY job, to someone with experience and tools to do it.

The easiest way to sort it, would be to get a complete hub assembly from ebay, and fit that. The wheel bearings normally have a good long life, with many FL1s still having their original bearings at 150k miles.
