Afternoon all,
Bit of a cheek I suppose first post and it's a query. I'm in the process of changing the drop link on the rear anti roll bar (near side). Old link removed, disco up on axle stands under the chassis, started to jack up the axle to fit the link but with the upper thread of the link still about an inch below the hole in the anti roll bar the whole vehicle is beginning to lift off the axle stands.
I appreciate this query may have been answered before but before posting I did have a look on the forum but couldn't. find any thing. The Disco suspension has not been lifted, but was converted from air suspension to
springs last year.

Hi Griff,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. The problem is not in lifting the ARB end up it's in effect getting it lower. I've spoken to my local independent dealer today and they suggest that the ACE valve block at the other end of the ARB has a hydraulic lock. They advise releasing one of the connections to relieve the pressure. So that's the next step. Probably won't get onto it 'til Friday. Herding the grandchildren to-morrow. I could l lock them in the Disco but they'd only jump around an set the alarm off!

Cheers Eric

Are both drop-links detached or just one side? I removed the ACE on mine because the ARB kept becoming asymmetrical and the droplink would disconnect and reconnect if I drove around a sharp bend. When I had ACE, I had to remove the rear ARB and its tubing, loosen off the arm so that it was symmetrical again. I jacked the car up and put it under the wheel, using the weight of the car to hold it. It’s a large bolt and I had nothing to hold the arm whilst I undid it. I think there was an issue with the valve block on mine causing the asymmetry; even the local main dealer couldn’t sort it out.

I ended up removing the ACE as it wasn’t doing anything anyway, plus the pipes were shot and the pump made a horrendous noise. There are many posts concerning the pros and cons of ACE on this forum.

Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. It was just one side, the near (passenger) side drop link. I only found out when the Disco failed the MoT. When I investigated the top ball joint had pulled out of the drop link. The offside link is still in place.
Any way I'm happy to say that I've fitted the new link. Without the the use of a jack or lifting the axle. I cracked the hydraulic line to the ACE actuator and was then able to pull the ARB down by hand and fit the new drop link.
I'm off for a retest tomorrow (Sat). Hopefully all will be well. I'm still a little concerned about how and why the old drop link ball joint was pulled apart. I drove through Macedonia in June last year and the ACE warning light and chime went off repeatedly on a very rough road in high temperatures. When I got back to the UK I had a look around and couldn't see any thing untoward. I did do a partial change of the ACE fluid by sucking out the old fluid from the reservoir and topping up. I did this probably three or for times and have had on repetition since. Although to be fair it's not been as hot.

Thanks again for your advice Eric
