hiya guys,

hopefully i wont get sworn at for asking such a stupid question.

i have radials on the car and on checking the spare it is a cross ply.

ive tried to find out the difference but all i can find out that your not allowed o mix them,

in this case i assume i will have to change the spare for a radial tyre.

what is the difference and why cant i mix them.

my apologies for asking such a daft question but i know there are very experianced owners on here:doh::doh::doh:

Are you sure it's a Crossply???? they're virtually unheard of nowadays.. Write down the tyre markings and repost on here. I haven't seen a new crossply car tyre for about 20years???

In response to your original question it's illegal to mix them on the same axle as the handling is totally different between the two types. you can have cross ply on the front and radials on the rear but not the other way round (or is it the otherway round??)

Don't think it'll be a crossply. I think you can still get new ones, but only for classic cars from specialist suppliers & you really have to want one. You've probably misread the markings on the sidewall.
