Thanks for responding to my post. First up, there is no manual so reading
it is not really possible. I am engaging the 4wd on grass and gravel, not
tarmac. Does 4wd not work on tarmac?

Thanks

Glynn

Thats allright, but as to 4x4 on tarmac, if you have part time 4x4 you have
a mechanical locked transfer case, this splits engine power 50/50 front and
rear and at the same revs of the driveshafts. but when you go round corners
the front and rear wheels turn different amounts due to their following
different lines. this puts far to much stress on the front diff, universal
joints and shafts. these can break under the stress as a wheel has to much
grip to scuff and release the strain on tarmac as it can on dirt or grass.
