Hi to All,
This is my first step into the world of 'threading' so I thought I would give you a corker to start with.
Having been a Disco owner (1992 200 TDI), for the past 12 years or so and a keen disco man, i have come across most of the problems with the Disco and overcome them in time. There is one problem that is however totally baffeling me. I recently replaced the rear floor pan (which had rusted from inside the car! I also I think improved the design if any one is interested). The process of deterioration was greatly assisted by the 'rubber sponge' which L/R sought to use as a sound deadener on the floor pan. But I needed a reason.
After removal of the trim around the rear toplights, I found the box section which holds the top of the rear set belt mount had started to deteriorate and there was evidence of water inside the horizontal box section steelwork directly below the roof windows. I have sat in the car whilst raining cats and dogs fully expecting the water to be leaking in from the rubber surrounds on the top windows (NOT SO!! the rubbers are dry). I know there is an overlapping panel seam at this point and can only assume the seals between panels have broken down and the water is entering under the 'roof guttering' and entering the box section by capillary action. There are no obvious holes in the guttering. I think it could be the plastic trim drawing water in when the gutter is full of water. This is most anoying, because the water is damaging the trim panel around the top light and the rear trim panel (where sometimes they fit a speaker) it spoils an otherwise first class piece of machinary. The water does not flow out but is a steady drip, also there is retained water in the box section when exploring it with a 3mm drill tap. Any help out there please.
