Hi. First thread here but having an issue with my wife's td4 auto box. It's starting to make a rattling noise on drive. Bit like when you used to put cards on the spokes of your bike. (Showing my age a bit.) Exhaust looks fine as I have replaced the rear box and there is clearance. The drive shaft looks clean and there is no oil drips from any of the transmission components. The engine runs fine on idle. No issues as I have replaced the crank shaft filter with the modication from BMW and its not blowing oil out of the dip stick or any metal flakes in the oil. Thinking its possibly either a transmission or engine mount problem as the engine is fine on idle but starts to vibrate when drive is selected. Any help from the wise would be most welcome.

Could be loads of things, but everything needs checking carefully, preferably by someone who knows the Freelander well.

there is no oil drips from any of the transmission components.
You must have run out of oil then.

You don't say if its F1 or F2.

If its an F1, the only thing that immediately springs to mind is the main pulley (driving the aux/fan belts), they delaminate - 'normal' advice is to shine a torch on it and check for flecks of metal floating around.

What was the outcome at the end of the day? Having the same on my FL1 auto td4.

First check would be the crank pulley as above.
Thanks Andy. The crank pulley is that the one which usually shall be renewed with Corteco? Then that one was replaced with one in 2018/-19. Could also rule out the waterpump pulley as renewed with the thermostate in 2019. New belt in 2020.

@Nodge68, yes saw it, but thought to give it a try. Maybe he fixed it and didn't confirm.
