rattling ABS/Traction control unit

Good morning, had a free lander 1998, since March this year.Runs nice on roads,cant take it off road as ABS?Traction control unit makes horrendous rattling noise.The HD switch on gear stick doesn't appear to work as no dashboard light comes on when engaged.Lifted gaiter,and lo and behold wires from switch had been cut !
Is it possible to renew ABS unit,and would it be ok to buy a used unit ?

The sound you describe could possible just be the noise that is made during the normal working of the abs unit. I would suggest you find a garage or person with a rover test book machine and check all the sensors are working. If the lights don't come on sounds like some one has bodged it. Could be missing reculator rings or bad sensors also?

I'm sure you could replace the unit with a matching used one should you need but you don't often hear of them failing

Ok,thank you.Aftyer lifting the gear stick gaiter,found the wires from hill descent control have been cut,i suppose to stop warning lights coming on ?what woiuld be the cost of rrepair /
