Hi just wondering has anyone had the same problem there is a rattle coming from my jeep when I drive it sounds like a exhaust noise . The heat sheld was broken under the engine was broken free and fixed but the noise is still there . Don't have jeep on road yet have only bought it and replaced the headgasket and upgraded to remote thermostat . There is no rattle when it on idle and stationary only when its moving , only other way is to get someone to hang on under jeep to see where it coming from don't think I will get too many volunteers for that job :)

Well post was posted on a land rover forum and under the freelander section so didn't think id have to say it was a land rover freelander :p

If it's a petrol engine and rattle only happens under acceleration, it could simply be "pinking," which to the un-initiated sounds a little like an exhaust rattle. If it's this, have your timing checked, it's probably too far advanced.

:D:D Oh, and there are the odd one or two on here who hate hearing Land Rovers being called jeep or truck. But they are a great bunch of lads who enjoy a good ****-take, once you get used to them (feel free to join in with the banter) you'll not find a better Land Rover forum. :D:D

How long have you owned the aforementioned vehicle?

How big a list do you want. put on ramps
check the following
exhaust hangers, rubbers
shock absorber tubes loose or rattling
spring hangers
uj's
transmission mounts/transfer case mounts
and any other thing that can come loose, check with a fine tooth comb.

And report back, if you want any more help

Thanks Clanforbes will have a look at that too , and have the vehicle 2 months got it cheep as chips with head gone so bit of a project . Yeah it good site have been looking at previous threads on other stuff I needed to know and was great help

Gavdon i have the same problem with my td4 freelander, its fine when idle/stationary but when its moving and the vehicle gets hotter the rattling intensifies.

Will let you know if i find out what it is.

I've had a good play around the exhaust/heat shields diff mounts, vcu adn props and uj's but nothing. It could be within the engine bay or your cataylic converter has broken up inside.

Cant get past the first mistake in this thread to keep reading.

What did you type into the search option at the top right of the main freelander page ?

I get a vibration/rattle from mine just as i pull away at very low revs, i have found that the bolts are missing at the back of the sump guard under the engine, i just cant be bothered to get under the car and replace them to stop the noise.

Could well be this - the exhaust downpipe bolts onto the sump, mine was missing when I bought it - re-fitted the bolts and the rattle was gone:)

Thanks guy's for all the help will let ya's know when I find out where noise coming from , will not make that mistake again will only call it a freelander for future threads:)
