Good evening I am based in Woodbridge Suffolk, unfortunately I ended up in the River Deben on Saturday after a dinghy sank and my only! key fob for my 2001 Range Rover 4Ltr V8 Westminister obviously got wet with sea water. I called 3 main dealers Lindacre cost £174, Hammonds Halesworth who quoted £250 and were quite unfreindly about it the best cost for replacement was from Lookers Colchester who quoted £145 + £50 reprogramming, however Lindacre informed me this is not neccessary, Lindacre are down to earth and based in Ipswich, their parts guy informed me you just imput the Security code into the door, I have the code in the service book. I think its about time these Dealers got their facts straight. I then called Stratstone in Sheffield who informed me the the machine the cuts the keys at Landrover had broken! and any new key has to be cut in the US a 6 weeks lead time!!. I called Landrover Customer Services they could not tell me whether this was correct and didnt know anything. Have Landrover totally given up on P38 Range Rovers, despite many thousands still on the road. Can any one throw any light on this statement from Stratstone. In meantime I have sent the key for repair to Autotronics in Liecester, who are specialists in Vehicle electronics repair, Autotronics have advised me that the repair will not interfere with the programming and the cost is £60 including a new case.
Why are Landrover and Main Dealers not more reasonable on the costs of keys especially for a 15 year old vehicle, I really believe the ramp up prices when they have got clients over a barrel when a key is lost or damaged and this is not acceptable, any thoughts would be useful
