I’m addicted!! I really could just spend, spend, spend on the RR – it doesn’t need anything of course, I just like buying stuff for it! And the little things really add up don’t they?

So far the list of bits I’ve done include uprating the headlight bulbs, replaced the wipers, replaced the upper tailgate struts, welded some small holes up in the boot floor, flushed the coolant system, fitted a new fuel pump/sender unit, bought one new M+S tyres and won 3x A/T tyres on eBay last night, bought and fitted a new K&N air filter element, fitted a CD player (inc new ISO leads – FYI, Defender/Disco ISO leads fit!), bought a towrope for to keep in the boot, and a jerry can, and a snow shovel, bought some new graphics for the lower tailgate and a genuine Land Rover boot tray too, etc etc – it just goes on! Some were necessary, others really weren’t!!

And what else would I like to do? Well, light guards for the front at least, perhaps some spot lights too (although don’t like the stock classic bullbars!), an LPG kit would be great, need a new switch for the back off-side door to get the interior light to come on when I open it (the other 3 work!), the backbox has a small hole so would like a sports exhaust system or new backbox and remove the centre box, the offside manifold ‘ticks’ until warmed up which I think needs a new gasket – again, none are major points but all add up!! And that’s without filling the blasted thing up with petrol!!

Anyone else suffer from the same problem – addiction to spending?! On the plus side, I'm enjoying every minute of it...just don't tell the missus how much it's costing!! :D

well since i got mine 6 months ago,i didn't stop repairing it,every month fixing a thing,i paid 2300$ as repairs,i need a whole page to write wht was changed/repaired.even some arguments with the missues abt the bloody range,a while ago she hated its guts, she said it is a damn sewer, how much u put it just keep on going and wanting more, when the repairs will stop!anyway i adore my p38,and when i took the missues and my doughter in it,and drove in the storm with snow everywhere, she just started to like it.
A money pit it is,but hell it is worth every penny u put on.just check the newer models and ****e,no way they will last 15 years without changing an engine block or transmission.these vehicules r heavy duty, although people dramatize them when it comes to liners sliping,or eas nightmare.cheers

Where is the tyre department at Marks and Spencers?:cool:

I spent lots of money on my first classic.
All stuff like a bull bar, seat covers, light guards etc etc.
The only accessory I have now is a radio.
The most important part to fit are a set of mud flaps, stops the mud rotting out the body work.

Oooh, mudflaps - haven't got those! Do they really make much difference though? And will they just get torn off on muddy lanes?

Oh, I've also bought fitted mats for it too - forgot those!!

Mud flaps should be at the top of your list.
I'm not sure, but were they not fitted as standard?
They make a massive difference.
Stop's the mud getting sprayed up in to the space between the outer body panels and the inner body, especially at the back.
A rotten classic is something we are all trying to avoid.
They only get ripped off if you go in reverse and get them trapped between the tyre and an object.

I like this man, and I'll probably meet him in the divorce courts some day.

Hard drugs? No, for a true addiction buy a Rangie.

With the dark nights and freezing weather I've got parts queuing up in the garage waiting to be fitted!

Last job done? White gauges. Yes dear I had to buy them, the old speedometer was faulty.

OK, will look into those as well. You're not helping, you realise!!

I'm not sure that's a good thing, but you made me laugh!! What else you got to fit? Not sure about white dials, I haven't found mine offensive (apart from the fuel gauge, which barely works) but hey-ho! Any pics of yours?

My Range Rover 2 door 1972 cost £400 in bits and then I bought a Discovery 300 TDI engine and gearbox for £200 and put it in.
In the last five years that's all its cost me ,never broken down.

You did well to get a 72 for that money, when was it? they seem to have gone up alot recently

Photographs?

On a computer?

In a reply you mean?

I've only just worked out how to use the smilies.

Well I'm pointing the lap top at the dashboard but it doesn't seem to have taken the hint.

Em . . . you weren't in a hurry I hope.

I bought it about five years ago from a HGV mechanic.
He had stripped it down to rebuild it and then lost interest.
He also did not have a vin plate and thought it was going to be a problem to sort out.
I just sent off for a replacement vin plate from the internet.
He had all ready replaced the sills and rear cross member.
I just bolted it back together and painted the bumpers and a couple of others bits
Being a two door there,s not much to go wrong.

sounds like you did well althought he prices seemed to go up most in the last couple of years as far as I can see, maybe RE spne king. I will need to do the rear crossmember on mine this year. oh yeah and i spent alot on tools to do it lol

You need to put a v8 back in it btw :D

I sold the engine in the local paper.
The man who bought it was going to put it in a kit car.
I have got a spare Range Rover with a fuel injected engine laying in the grass slowly rotting away.
It has a cooling system problem so probably stuffed.
