Is one better than the other or is it really down to personal preference?,I'm new to the site and am seriously looking for my first on/off roader after a mate getting an old 91 200tdi discovery a few weeks ago.Since going out in that i've decided to get rid of my car and get one.I'm looking at 92/93 range rover diesels as i've always liked the range rover but have never been in a financial position to buy/run one.thing is discos seem to be more redily avalible and cheaper than the range rover.Question is do i go for a range rover as i've always wanted one or is the disco really a better option (I do like them to).? Any advice welcomed as i have a limited knowledge of 4x4's (apart from i know i don't want a frontera!)

If it was down to looks it'd be the range rover due to the fact that discos are pug ugly. However discos are cheap to buy and there are mountains of secondhand spares out there. Plus lots more kit available to modify or improve them;)

I've noticed theres not much in the way of spares/mods advertised around for range rovers compared to discos but really don't know what to go for.I'd rather a range rover personally but are they worth paying the extra for? with my very limited knowledge of them i really don't know what to go for.

There's not much difference really. Mechanically they're very similar and the basic design is much the same. I spose you might find an oldish range rover in better nick due to it having been very expensive when new and therefore dealer serviced etc but then the same could be said for a disco. It's just down to whatever you prefer really.

I was in same situation as you couple of years ago and I went for range rover and have not been disapointed,I think when lifted a couple of inch with the gear on(by that I mean guards and such) they look better. But that is only my opinion which on the the big scale of things counts for Jack **** !!

Put a deposit on a 93 200tdi classic today and am going around tommorow with the rest of the cash, from there on will be problems all the way knowing my luck;)

So the RRC chassis and ther Disco chassis is eggsackterly the same? Dunt souprise me much ;)
