Random tube/pipe on front axel

Hi love this site people are so helpful.
Good day today fitted me new 70 amp alternator into me series 3 109, however whilst doing this I no ice a black tube about 3 inches long sticking out the top of my front axle and going no where. Can some one advise to what it's for and where it should be connected to?

Ah the joy of buyin a landy on eBay.

axle breather can be piped up higher to stop water when wading

Should be one on the back axle too. Make sure they're not blocked or thermal expansion of the oil can push it past the seals - all over the brakes on the back axle!

Cheers thts a relief. Currently sorting out countless bits of dodgy work on it. Well at least that's on less thing to worry about.
