Radius arms

I am in the process of making up a tool for pressing in the radius arm bushes on my p38 and it would be realy handy to know what size the hole for the bush is in the arm before I strip them down. Anyone know or got one laying around they could measure for me ?

They press in easily enough with a vice and a couple of spacers

Can I assume you haven't fitted genuine bushes to a p38 ?

You can assume that correctly but I have fitted plenty original bushes to classic Range Rovers over the years and never had a problem.

Pressing the new bushes in is the easiest part of the job, getting the rusted bolts out to remove the radius arm is the worst followed closely by removing the old bush from the arm

Then you won't be aware that on the p38 the bushes are bigger than the holes and need to be radially reduced in size before pressing into the arms.

From what I'm led to believe the set up of the radius arms of the Classic and the P38 are similar in that the bushes are pressed in.

The rubber bush has a metal sleeve covering the outside and easily presses into the radius arm

The new bushes have a plastic deformable outer shell. You need to trust me on this, I have one I'm front of me I also have the relevant section of rave specifying the need of a LR tool.

i too, have found out, that the p38 bushes are differant from the classic ones.i had to make a special tool to replace mine.i rolled some stainless steel into a cone, then welded down the seam, then cut the top off the cone to have the inside opening the same size (or slightly smaller) as the radius arm hole, then used various sockets and g clamps too insert the bushes
