Radio won't come on - come across this before ?

We recently bought a FL1 TD4 facelift (2004) which has a number of peculiar electrical issues. The rear parking sensors don't work (which doesn't bother us much, TBH), but the radio was kinda dodgy in that it was difficult to turn on and off. I got it to work, and said to the wife to leave it on so that it comes on automatically when the engine's started.

It's now just come back from the garage following some engine cut out issues (I need a new low pressure pump ... ??) and now the radio won't start at all.

It's a 6 CD changer unit with "Land Rover" written just above the CD slot.

Anyone come across this problem before ? Is it just a switch problem ? Do I need to buy a new unit ? etc, etc ...

I have the same radio as you, and the same issue, I found pushing more to the left side of the knob helped, maybe a dodgy contact or something but its not a major concern for me. If they've had the battery off to fit your pump, then it'll have reset the radio to off

What you are suggesting is probably what is technically known as a dry joint, i would get it fixed asap as it could either lead to serious issues or a new stereo

Lovely stuff, cheers y'all. It's going into an autoelectrician next week to take a look for a dry joint. As soon as I told him my problem he said the same as you did Zejmjien.

Only just seen this fred.

Our (R770) radio always worked fine (on our '99). Came on when you pressed the button and went off to.

Then we got the 3 Amigos lit. This didn't effect the radio, but I had a hunt around for info on clearing the Amigos and somewhere I read that if you cross a couple of the connectors on the ODB socket (or whatever it is) - then it clears the faults.

So out came a paper clip and I squashed it into all the connectors in turn. Some connections did nuffin, others gave me a colourful array of sparks

End result was that the 3 Amigos were not cleared - but the damm radio would not turn on. Pressing the button would change the dash display to show the radio starting up - but it would just turn itself off again immediately. It did manage to come on on occassions, but next time in the car, back to square 1.

Anyway left it like it till the next warrant (MOT) and had to sort it. So got an ABS modulator from a sprappers and they fitted it as well and cleared the fault codes. When we got the car back, the radio was working fine.

So I don't know whether that's the same problem as yours. In fact I don't know what our problem was or what cleared it - just when it started and stopped !!
