Radiator Hoses - How do I protect them from manifold heat

I just got a split top radiator hose on my Freelander. (1.8 Petrol).
As I rarely venture near that big oily black thing under the front lid I was mildly surprised to see no heat shielding between the upper rad hose and the exhaust manifold. ( although there is a shi**y looking wad of something to the left to shield the alternator.)

Bernard Manning, The commedian parts man at my local dealer says that the engine shouldn't ever get hot enough anyway but split hoses are an occasional setback to Freelanders.

Does any one know of a method of shielding the rad hoses? (proprietory or DIY)

I considered one of the space shuttle 'thermal blankets' but they don't seem to stay put either. (and are no doubt a bit pricey too!)

Can anyone help?

By the way... Why on earth are they called FREElanders

Hi most hoses are heat protected in thier manufacture. If you really want/need to protect the hoses from heat then either replace them with car hoses (think they're vulcanised rubber) or go buy some heat protective shielding for around £5 per foot at the local motor factors.
