My daughter just ran out of room and time to work on her YJ. She
found a 95 Nissan XE pu - 4x4, 31x10 rubber in decent shape, extended
cab and topper, V-6, 5-spd, under 100k miles. I drove it and got the
dealer to rebuild the front end, replace the exhaust from the cat
back, and do a full brake job. As far as I can tell, the timimg belt
needs to be changed RSN, the fan belts are ready to change, and there
is a leaking hose on the a/c. The radiator and heater hoses are new.
Po took decent care of it so it seems to be in pretty good shape.

What else do I need to be aware of on this vehicle? Any suggestions
on a good manual for this thing? I seem to be the family repair depot
but I know squat about the later Nissans. Dealer quoted about $600
worst case on the timing belt ( new cam/crank seals, water pump, etc.
- YGBSM!)

I owned one of these and had 120,000 trouble free miles. The only thing
tht was ever replaced other than the timing belt was rear brakes. They
are pretty bulletproof.

My '86 was still going strong when a top hose went with my wife driving, and
it overheated, and she kept driving, and the head gasket went and she kept
driving and.... you get the idea. FUBAR. But that was at 170K miles. The
truck was getting a little crusty at 19 years old and all those miles but it
still started, ran, and drove well.

That said, my mechanic gives the nod to Toyota.
