Guys,
A work mate has a 2009 Freelander 2. He asked me when the best time to renew the timing belt is. Apparently LR recommend at 150k !! Is this correct ? seems a high number to me and would changing earlier be recommended?
Also is it safe to engage high low whilst on the move? He very rarely uses it, if ever, but just asked the question. Its all electrickery so I have no clue. I was wondering if, like manual version on Disco/Defender etc its a good idea to engage it now and again to free it off through lack of use?
Cheers

That's what the official figure is I think for the diesel - pretols are chain drive. Waterpump as well at the same time of course....

Personally I'd do it earlier - and it has a limit of ten years so if hes doing low miles it will be well before 150k but modern drivebelts last a long time - my old Focus from 15 years ago was on 100k belts and that never had any problems and is still running, 4 belts and 430,000 miles later....

Cam belt is 150 K or 10 years.
There's no low range on a Freelander 2 as it has a single speed transfer box, so the question isn't relevant.

Back again with another question.
Colleague has had the auxiliary belt and tensioner changed this week at a local garage. Apparently he had what he describes as a belt/pully noise and they diagnosed the tensioner at fault. Now done and noise is still there. I have not had a chance to look at it, but before I do, any ideas what to look for from you guys? Water pump, pully bearings etc ??

is the noise there on tickover only and does it change/increase when the engine revs increase, when stationary?

Had a look at it. The noise goes away when you turn the heater blower off. Comes back when you turn it on again, but increases the faster you go and kind of spools down when you slow.?? Air Con problem maybe ??
