Hi guys.

The 90 i've not long had came with a cb but no antenna or coax etc, anyway, sorted that today and have it up and running but it's been a long time since i had one of these and i have a feeling that you now need a licence to operate!!!
Is that the case or not??

Other than that:

What channels are generally used for what these days?

I have the antenna located as near the centre, back, above door and i have run an earth to a bolt that joins roof to sides.. is that adequate enough?

What other useful hints and suggestions can you make to a relatively new cb'r??

I have done signals with the forces so am not a complete novice but no doubt there are some civy things i need to know.

Thanks.

oh and if there's anyone within the devon cornwall area that wants to go on air and help me test this thing.. give me a time and handle and will see if it actually works correctly.

No licence needed, we is all free these days:)

19 for open chanel I believe, but most clubs or groups out for a day will pick a chanel before hand so everyone can keep in touch.

Good earth vital. You sound ok.

You must SWR your set up or it could fry your rig. It's a wee guage you plug inline on the coax and check the signal/output strength. Google it!

Best of luck.

Mate,If you've done signals then you should know this but anyway, don't key the mike or play around with it until you either swr it or have a dummy load or as said you WILL cook it.
Can't help with the swr as you are miles away but they ain't expensive.

all i've done is turned it on and flicked a few channels till i've heard some banter, other than that i've left it alone as i knew i would need to set it up correctly as stated.
I did signals about 18yrs ago so am a bit rusty but that's why the asking of questions to be sure.
If i could find someone in devon/cornwall who is a reg user and has the SWR meter etc i would happily take a drive and set this up correctly with someone. Just a case of who and when i guess.
Thanks again for the input folks.

Take a look on fleabay for a meter and jobs a gooden. They are easy to use so if you can't get someone to set it up but get the meter just come back on here and i or someone else will be glad to walk you through.
