Question on door seals

The old door seals have a metal strip and the new on the roll seals by paddocks do not.

The question is, do I need a metal strip or can I just rivet the rubber straight on?

Weird,i was just going to ask the same question on here.Same as you I was looking on Paddocks for the original type with the metal strip but couldn't see any.
