well I don't know what to do, I have an s1 and an s3, both will need a new chassis in a few years.

I never finished putting the s3 back together after swapping out the bulkhead last year and there are some electrical problems it starts the gauges work but none of the lights, I suspect that is my fault for not making good enough notes and taking enough care when I took it apart.

rear brake cylinder has failed on the s1 and it will probably need a new clutch soon.

the s3 is tax free 2.3 diesel, the s1 is 2.25 petrol, neither engine is original.

i prefer the s1 for looks but the lack of synchro is a real pita and sometimes it just will not go into gear, usually when i am turning right and causing an obstruction :D

So do i

sell the s3 as an unfinished project and use the money to fix the s1 brakes.

keep the s3 and rob out the engine gearbox clutch and brakes to use in the s1 and sell what is left of the s3 as a tax free shell.

I am not bothered about losing the mot free status of the s1.

Hmmm I have a series 3 as a daily driver but lust after a series 1......
My series 3 is going well and really requires little to keep it that way, my quandry is do I start all over again to knock a series 1 into shape or keep it as a dream. Having both is not an option. Can I afford the series 1 prices?

my 3 was a daily driver until I started messing with it :D

that said the bulkhead had been living on borrowed time for years, I was gobsmacked when it passed its last mot but saw no reason to argue with the examiner, but there was no way it would have passed again, so the plan was to swap it out in time for the next mot, and here I am a year later.

s1's are by far the best imho just wish they had full synchro.

I thought project s1's weren't much more than other series in terms of cost.

You can't sell the series without a chassis if you're wanting to sell as tax exempt remember and then just make sure you judge your buyer so the vin doesn't end up on a stolen td5 90

if I robbed the bits I wanted the s3 would still have the chassis it is on now, I would sell it with the s1 engine and box in the tub, or maybe see if I could get something for them if the buyer didn't want them.

once it was sold I would have relatively little interest in what the new owner did with the bits.

Project series 1s are just affordable. The price spares change hands at is eye watering.
I stood in Craddocks and watched a man part with a lot of money for very few small items.
