Purchased a bull bar, are they a pain to fit?

Hi everyone I purchased a bull bar, need work, sand blasting, a bit of filling etc but took me ages to find this style where there looks to be a hook which bolts on to the chassis.. Where I used to work when I was a kid there was a Farm defender td5 which came with one of these from new so it was nice to find one which is straight ( although it’s rusty but can deal with that hopefully) are these a pain in the butt to fit? Do I need any specific fixings

Thanks for that, it’ll need some work before I can put it on hell of a state tbh, but too good to throw away

Yes it is "just" slip over the bumper and put the bolts though both to secure. If you bolt come out ok as you have had the bumper off recently that is half of the battle but when putting is back on you will find getting things to line up correctly can be abit of a challenge. Do not do anything up tight until all four bolts are in and you may find you need some pushing, pulling and swearing with a prybar to get the bull bar holes to line up with the bumper and chassis holes. It is not difficult and is no worse than getting anything else to line up on a defender, but you will be very lucky if you just put it in place and the bolts drop through first try with no issue.
 
Let your insurance company know you have fitted it. They may reject a claim if you hit another vehicle, or a pedestrian.
 
Well after having a poke about with it tonight I decided it’s probably better in the metal bin grave yard sadly, there is a plastic coating on it which hides rust very well and I’ve found a few holes in it which I’m not willing to spend the money on to repair, I’m done with spending money on rusty things after my last discovery 2, thank you everyone for your reply’s, it took me ages to find this exact style, months in fact.. so if anyone knows of or are selling one let me know

I had the same issue. Unfortunately powder coat hides rust very well and is just terrible! Took a while to find a set and was a few failed collections where I went to inspect and they were far worse than advertised.

Got any blacksmiths local?
 
It’s a real shame as I drove a couple of hours to buy it but then again you couldn’t have seen it unless you peeling back that coating which looks to have trapped water behind, taken a hammer to a bit where the round section meets the box section and it went right through, gutted
