Hi Folks,
I need to pump between 300 - 500L from a tank to a water barrel at least once a week in the summer. This needs to be a cheap solution. I have a LR 90 2.5 N/A diesel and there is plenty of space in there to possibly attach a 2nd water pump to pump water from the tank. I'm guessing I would have to prime this pump manually and maybe get the spanners out for 5 minutes to disconnect/connect the pulley/pump when not in use. I can weld brackets etc. Does anyone know the approx flow rate of a typical engine water pump? What about pulleys - I'd need a 2nd belt?

Any ideas?

thanks

Jeremy

hmmmm...not a good idea to run a water pump dry....wot about a pto to run a pump fitted to the front xmember, or just a 12v pump??

ya could fit a pump with a hand operated tensioner.....when not in use just slacken the tensioner orf an put the belt in yer landy

Thanks for that - those electric water pumps are quite pricey - £150 +
The 12v water pump appears to be the cheapest solution - i've just bought a 12v belt driven bilge pump on ebay for £25 - will take 10mins to fill 300L barrel though. This may do to pump biodiesel too?

thanks again

hi...

I have a submersible 12v pump available. Japanese made. Make me an offer....

capacity......2200 G.P.H (assuming is gallon per hour)
DC 12v.....10A
DC 24v 5A
about 1.5kg
5 inch diameter x 6 inch height
1 1/4 inch water outlet connection

I used that to pump water out of evevator shaft after it was flooded, and connected that to my Landy. I also used it to pump water from river for washing etc when camping.

Pm me your email and I can send you some photos.

Added in the for sale section under Misc....

Thats the only way I know how to upload photos.....sorry...

postage would be about 5 quid......at 1.5kg 1st class parcel/packet...

have no idea what's it worth tho......but if you have one of these....would swap.....as i need one small enough to fit in the water container....

What about syphoning using just a piece of tube. If you aint keen on sucking to get it going you can get a syphon valve off ebay for around a fiver. just stick it on the end of the pipe and shake it up and down a few times to bleed it. If you want it done quicker just get a couple more pipes and valves.

ratty, the tank I'm pumping from is at the same level as the one i'm trying to fill and it would be 20 feet apart so would need a reason head to get any flow.

hows about an air driven water pump. (works on the same lines as airbrushing). Run a workshop style air compressor off a 12-240v inverter and attach to said pump. there is a heavy duty one on ebay at the mo ( Broom & wade Air Driven Submersible Water Pump Item number: 270205380396) . Probably way to big for what you want but much smaller ones are around if you look for them.

Interesting - I guess you would need a hefty compressor (3hp) to get any water pressure out of that beast. What sort of current would an inverter take to supply 240v 10A (200A?). If I had an inverter I spose I could buy a cheap submersible pump.

the pump would need to be cheap as the invertor needed to run it is going to cost an arm and a leg

I often use my 600watt inverter on my 300tdi without any probs. I normally use angle grinders, drills or flood lighting etc for an hour or two at a time running at approx 500-600w. Just don't turn yer engine off. A 600w inverter will cost about £30-60 on fleabay.

I fitted a 2000w one on my works truck and I can run my welder off that. ssshhhhh don't tell me boss. :D
