Morning all,

There has been a gradual constant 'whinning' style of noise from the side of my 1.8 (pulleys side) for a few weeks now....getting on my nerves:mad

Have had a lot of flooding up here for a few weeks now so have been wading thru deep lakes......changed the Alt/PS Belts yesterday as they were showing signs of splitting BUT the noise is still there.....could it be one of the Tensioner pulleys bearings knacked or should i have a look at the Timing Belt/Tensioner

As always...ta in advance ;)

Ah bliss..... :(.....how best to test it if it is the alternator?

Is it ok to take off the alt belt & run the car for a minute or so

It still runs smoothly & charging fine.....

Cheers, Ian

Try giving the belts a spray with WD40, like you say you have been driving through water, sometimes the belts hold water and start slipping on the pulleys making a noise.

Hi, tried that a few times......just checked the belts i fitted yesterday & they are fine, def think its a pulley bearing thats got soaked/worn.....what pulleys have bearings?

Would it be the Alt & Tensioners.......????

Thanks :)

Take the belt off and spin the pulleys and alternator by hand. You should be able to feel any roughness in the bearings. Engine off with the keys in your pocket ;)
