I'm slowly adding bits to my 05 TD5 110 (with aircon) and now thinking about a winch.

I've seen the debates about electric v hydraulic and although electric seems to be the simpler option from a buying and fitting perspective it seems to me that hydraulic may offer other benefits. However, I don't know much about hydraulic systems.

Could I fit a pump on the PTO with a shielded tank somewhere in one of the wheel arches and then use quick release connectors near the front bumper to connect a winch? Then, could I realistically expect this pump to power something like a portable log splitter?

Presumably if the log splitter needed a large oil capacity I could build that with a second tank to increase overall volume.

What would be the minimum practical capacity for the in-car fluid tank?

Would the QR connectors be reliable/safe?

I've seen a couple of sites describing PTO setups but does anyone know of any more? Hydraulic Winch on Land Rover Power Take Off (PTO)
4x4winches.com - PTO Pump Powered System

I'd like to avoid putting the tank in the battery box as I may want to add a second battery down the line.

Cheers,

Steve
