Guys how exactly to I decide if I just need new UJ's or whole propshafts???

I've had differing advice and what Ive tried to research online and on here isn't really making it clear for me.

Does anybody know???

And are the usual aftermarket propshafts good enough jobs?

depends where the wear is.... If its just the UJ's just replace them. Any wear in the propshaft splines or U~J housings, replace the prop.

So its just those splines that wear then - if they are good then prop is good? Basically if there is no play in them then prop is good?

Im having no big issues right now but just doing preventative maintenance as have no faith in previous owners care!

Normally just UJs. Just check for play and replace accordingly.
If you're planning on doing a lift get some wide angle props. Makes greasing the UJs easier aswell

Also keep and eye on the cups of the u/js, if one appears slightly different to the others and you can see the marks where it has moved/rotated it means the cup is loose in the prop yoke and the prop is scrap.

Tell me, if I go to replace both props, are the aftermarket ones good enough jobs?

Somebody mentioned wide angle props if doing a lift...I bought mine lifted already and its standard props. Its a 2 inch lift...I'm assuming this is no big deal?

Depends what kind of aftermarket prop. I don't suppose many people would recommend Britpart. But you can get perfectly good Bailey Morris units that are usually quite reasonably priced. Sometimes garages replace the whole prop rather than just the joints because of the time and labour saving involved. Keep your old ones and replace the UJs at your leisure and then you've got some spares ready to go on.

Ive used britpart ones a few times with no issues, Think you will find they are made by GKN, basically no worries.

for the prop. elongated cup holes in the yoke, and grab one half and see if you can twist it on it's splines.. if so, then worn.
