Hi all

I've just been told by my mechanic that I need a new propshaft for my 1.8 petrol freelander. Any ideas what I should expect to pay for a decent 2nd hand one? I need a wiper motor too, would eBay be my best bet for both these? I don't really know the first thing about this so any help would be appreciated

Cheers, jc

Why not let your grease monkey supply a propshaft  :D:D

My mechanic says I might get it cheaper on eBay, he can get all the bits but he's too busy working. I, on the other hand, am a man of leisure!! Unfortunately I'm also an idiot when it comes to this sort of thing!
I think the centre bit of the propshaft went and the rest of it has been damaged when I limped it to my garage. Was wondering about a 'ballpark' figure for replacing this and as I don't know a good one from a bad one I'm understandably cautious

The middle bit is the VCU - exchange recon about £200 plus £40 for carriers - Bell Engineering

I would say that if you have damaged the rest of the prop then you are looking at big bills for possibly the IRD and the Diff.

Don't go second hand VCU you will never find a good one. You need to know why you need a prop?! It's a heavy steel thing - if you have broken it I would be very surprised. VCU yes prop mmmm!

What happened? Did you ground it on a boulder?
