Hi 2003 freelander v6 auto the rear prop shaft has play in it where it connects to the diff there is a rubber boot just where it connects, and not looked how its joined to diff but guess it may be splined joint ? you can move that joint right at the diff end ,,and you get vibration when driving,,anyone please with any info on how to repair and whats involved freelander has done 121000 miles would this just be wear from use or caused by anything else, any info help greatly appreciated
thank you aly

I have a diesel L series but I would imagine the prop shaft assemblies are similar? However I am not aware of a rubber boot at the diff end of the propshaft? I had a similar problem and it was the UJ joint that had gone (badly) between the prop and the difff. A cheap fix at home but lots of huffing and puffing to get the old joint out on the bench.

Does the OP mean prop to IRD connection?

Hi thanks for your reply your right no rubber boot don't know why I put that.. checked the ujs and one has play in it so will change that for new one see what happens after huffing and puffing on the bench

HI thanks for replying and photos very helpful ,,got a bit of play in rear uj so will change that,,and at front end of prop the rubber gaiter is split and a bit of play do I need to replace front prop as it looks like sealed unit grease has come out from rubber boot proberly accounts for wear and movement in the front joint,, freelander v6 auto year 2003 121000 miles

Got that one diagnosed quickly! And Hippo is there with the part number ... This forum operates at lightening speed.

Good luck with the changeover ( I actually ended up with a mild case of tennis elbow after taking that job on!!)

Will this be your way of ringing in the New Year?

You can take the front prop apart as per the link in the posts about, to replace the boot. The boot I have it betterer than the original LR type. v6 front prop different to others.

Hi yes nice way to start the new year but needs must HIPPO is very helpful good guy even for novices like me
