problem starting

hi can anyone help i have a ford maverick 2.7 diesel aspen 1996 when i
first had the vehicle in october there was no problems. just after xmas
the vehicle wouldn't start from cold i.e. overnight i found that the
glow plugs were goosed. after about a month when i went to start the
vehicle it would turn over like the battery was flat. it took ages to
jump start it.once the vehicle had started and revved up for a couple
of minutes it was fine no problems starting. then overnight problem
again slow turn over wouldn't start any ideas please

You are describing a battery not getting fully charged.

You can have dirty connections on the battery cables at either end or
maybe a fan belt that isn't grabbing the alternator pulley or a bad
battery or a bad alternator.

Cleaning the connections would be a good idea anyway.

The battery can act like that if it is low on fluid.

You need to get a multimeter, even a cheap one and see what voltage is
getting to the battery to really tell more.

thanks mike about 3wks ago my alternater belt snapped i have fitted a
new one i thought the battery was the problem i wanted to double check
before purchasing a new battery once again thank you

Before you buy the new battery, check that alternator belt to make
certain it is tight enough. It takes quite a bit to turn an alternator
and the slightest slip in that belt can keep it from charging.

How old is your current battery?

I'll second on double checking the belt tension. I test them by taking
a cold off engine and seeing if I can hand slip the alternator pulley.
If I can make it slip, it won't grab good enough under load.

battery was on the car when i bought it last october. I have charged
the battery overnight and twice i have started from cold with no
problems thanks for the advice
