Got a TD5 on an X Plate I use it for towing a quite large caravan, Is there anyway of giving it a bit more pulling power??? It runs fine, uses no oil or water but Slack Hill near Matlock in Derbyshire just kills it with the van hooked up , my TD4 Freebie used to handle it better, All the filters have been done (fuel and air) using quality diesel,,,Any ideas Folks

Welcome to the forum, you best go to the intro section and introduce yourself before you get mauled by the natives !!!,as to your question I would get a remap to boost power after you've checked that it is already running as it should

Hi Saxon . I have a td5 auto 2001 . And tow a 26ft twin axle caravan weight 1950k and have had no prob with the standard power going up hill As they tow up to 3500k . Has yours still got the egr value hook and if it's a auto when was last time you did oil change

If it's an auto, try using "3" rather than "D" on hills, it'll pull better. However the auto' box cars as std are not the best towers - to improve it you need to change the TC (Torque Converter) for a modified Ashcroft one. Helps the car enormously.

Next step after that is a re-map from someone like Mike at Dynachip - the car will be completely transformed by these two mods.

:D:welcome2:first step , remove EGR , Removed the one on my 2002 disco and am satisfied with additional performance , I had thought about a re map but after a year as it is now I'm happy , twin axle 1800kg caravan down to spain every year no problems with pulling, give it a try first.

Sorry, I thought this section was part of the same forum as the freebie section Whooops...The Truck is a manual stabdard 5 speed, as far as I know the EGR is in si still in place... Is it advisable to re-map an older engin ???

OK so it's a manual box, then we can forget about the TC.

Next thing is to check the following:

1. The ECU plugs - there are black and red multi plugs that connect to the ECU. The red one is often contaminated with oil, check/clean with brake a nd clutch cleaner aerosol spray. Now test drive - no good? Go to No.2

2. There is a sensor on the TD5 inlet manifold called a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) and this gets contaminated with a tar-like substance from the EGR valve. Ideally you should buy a De-EGR kit and replace the valve so no more **** comes through, plus clean the MAP sensor with, yes you guessed it, Brake and Clutch cleaner. Now test drive - still no good?

3. Replace the catted exhaust downpipe for a non-cat one. Now test drive - still no good?

4. Get it re-mapped by an experienced set-up such as Mike at Dynachip tuning. THAT WILL FIX IT !

Don't just jump to #4, you need to take a progressive approach to ensure anything is resolved before the re-map.

get a biggg turbo put on! stage 2 re map and jobs a good en!

no seriously as dave has said! go through the car and check everything, de egr, air flow meter can be a big problem, then if you are certain it's a little flat a re map, i have had my latest 1 for 14 months now, steadly gone through it, but 2 weeks ago when i thought it was all up to scratch had a dynachip remap £225.00, well worth it!
Enjoy!!!,
PS, oh but must admit ive spent nearly a grand on this and that, oh and then this again!
