hi,

my 90 200tdi has developed a problem with the power steering. when turning the wheel, high pitched squeeking comes from the engine bay and you can feel that there is a loss in power (steering). im guessing its a worn belt and it needs replacing? if so how easy/hard is it to replace?

thanks,
jamie.

To replace the belt will take about 5 mins max! And that includes spending 4 mins looking for the bloody spanner needed to release the tension on the belt tensioner and change the single serpentine belt. Its a 14mm or 15mm

200tdi has a belt that goes from crankshaft to PAS pump to water pump. There's a second belt from PAS pump to alternator.

It's not difficult to change the belts - a few bolts to loosen to move the alternator, and then a few more to move the PAS pump.
