hi there
i am new to this site and im hoping you kind people can give me some advise.
recently bought a 300 tdi (r reg) had it about 8-9 weeks and yesterday started to make a funny noise, anyway found out that it had shredded a belt. (when i bought it the guy said he'd put a new water pump housing onit)
i put a new belt on but the problem i have is that the power steering pulley ( at least i think its that one) is out of line with all the others and the belt is riding on the back edge of the pulley therefore causing it to shred.
i took the belt off and the pulley moves in and out on the shaft about 20mm. i put the belt back on in right position but it doesnt take long for the pulley to move outwards and cause the belt to rub again on the inner edge of the pulley.
can anybody tell me what this problem is? else i will end up spending a fortune on belts. any help would be much appreciated. thanks louis
