Power steering problems

Please can anyone tell me is power steering failure common. we hae an 06 Freelander 2. the steering has all of a sudden become really stiff. we have only owned it a month it has done 53,000 miles. still under warranty

apparently weld spatter contaminates rack so I read on here and is cleaned out-great till rack or pump fail.

Do a search it was mentioned in last week as known issue
