power steering high pressure hose leak

Hi Gents,
I have a 1990 Defender with a 200tdi Discovery engine fitted.
I just changed the power steering pump, when I ran the engine for the first time power steering fluid was pouring out of the high pressure hose connection at the pump. The pump is a NTC8288 I believe.
The end of the high pressure hose has a flared end, with a threaded ferrule/sleeve over that threads into the body of the big nut on the pump.
I'm wondering if there is a washer or o ring or something I'm missing that maybe dropped off the hose when I removed it from the original pump??
I have snugged up the threaded part as far as possible, cant move it any tighter, but there still seems to be about 5mm thread visible - is this normal?

well I think it's sorted, my own stupid fault for being a cheapskate!
My defender has a 200tdi Discovery engine, power steering pump is an NTC8288.I looked around and a replacement was about the £160 mark cheapest I could find.
I found a post online somewhere that said you could swap the external can from an NTC8287 onto the NTC8288, it's only the can with the return hose spigot in a different position that is different. By coincidence just after I saw that post I saw a brand new NTC8287 on ebay for £60 so thought I would do the swap, worth a shot.
So - I drifted off the can and swapped it over, easy enough. I then noticed that the drive flange for the pulley was a different shape, so I had to use a bearing puller to get that off and swap that too. Then installed the pump, connected it and it leaked from the high pressure hose connection point.
I was not convinced that the hose had seated right as there seemed to be more thread showing than when I removed the line from the original pump.
So removed the hose tonight and took the big nut off the pump for a close look. On inspection it was obvious that this was designed for a hose with a different shaped end, not the brake pipe esque flared end that I had on my hose.
So - swapped the big nut from the old pump to the new one, and then the hose connected up fine and seated correctly, no leak.
So it is possible to convert an NTC8287 to an NTC8288, but you need to swap the big nut and the pulley flange as well as the can.
Is it worth it? No - buy the right pump!
