Powder coating advice

Anybody on here do powdercoating at home? I have most of the kit needed to blast, coat and heat but still not sure about some of the details and where to get supplies on a small scale.
Put a motorcycle frame in today to the local guys as I don't have a cabinet or oven big enough for a frame but I want to do all the smaller bits myself.
I don't want to have to pay for 25kg of powder at a time either, thats OK for black but not some of the smaller quantities needed for some colours!
Where do I get smaller quantities and what zinc powder undercoat should I use?
 
When my bike went off for some insurance work, they touched up the frame where some powder coating had worn off. Needless to say it wore off again very quickly.
Spoke to someone that does powder coating for a living, and he wasn't surprised, unless it's totally stripped and prepared, you're wasting your time and money
 
I have all the kit to powder coat, just never done it before and looking for where to get the materials. I don't need 25kg of powder coat to do a set of fork sliders!
hat UI am looking for is a bit of advice on what and where to buy smaller quantities, struggling to find this online, even the ebay places tha sell small bags won't send to the highlands.
 
I know about them, seen their stand at shows. Unfortunately their range of colours is limited and they don't have a zinc based primer. I might end up buying some black off them.
I have found a load of companies selling supplies but they tend to deal in larger quantities.
 
I ended up ordering some zinc primer and some RAL 9006 so I can do the four fork sliders I need to do, it weren't cheap but knowing how much it costs for the local guys to do it I should get my moneys worth by doing it myself.
After my last bike restoration I bought all the kit for powder coating and zinc plating because it was so expensive to pay for it to be done by others. I am just about to start the 109 and a new bike resto so digging it all out to use it.
I found that paint alone wasn't durable so all the little brackets and things will be bead blasted and Powder coated and most of the bolts derusted and recoated and reused.
 
I find paint is much worse. However for a while for small parts I have been using VHT caliper paint in satin black. If you blast the item and then use the cleaner, primer and top coat and then oven bake it the stuff looks good and is very tough.
Its a bit difficult to get hold of and I have run out but can thoroughly recommend it.
Struggling to find any more of it in the UK, at least with a supplier that is willing to post to me in the frozen north.

I like their crackle paint.
 
I have found a supplier for VHT paint, just getting over the cost before ordering:( I tend to use it for calipers (obviously!) but also things like triple trees where it makes a good tough finish but I can take care with the surfaces.
Anyway, pulled out the PC kits and parts tonight and did a small bracket on the superdream as a trial, learned a lot about it and it came out lovely, surprised just how easy it was apart from giving myself a shock when juggling things around. Most of the lessons learnt were about handling, racks and even what do do with the bracket when out of the oven rather than standing like a prat with it held by a pair of pliers around the hook it was on till it cooled.:confused:
The kit I have is not the electrostaticmagic one but a HV model I bough from CJ a couple of years ago.

I assembled the bracket onto the rear support so you cannot see it well but it is the little bracket the helmet lock goes onto.

Blasted one of the fork sliders tonight and coated it, came out really nice but unfortunately a bit too grey. Other than that I am quite pleased with it. Still guiesing a bit about heating times, the stuff I have said 8min at 180C but this was 180C metal temp and obviously it is cold to start with, did 12 mins to allow the item to come up to temp first and it seems fine.
Will now have to see if I can get a slightly better match for the colour, its hard when you can't see a colour chart and its just pics of powder!
