Potentially Newbie Discovery Owner

After looking around at Kia Sorento, Mitsubishi Shogun's etc etc I was given some sound advice about reasons not to get them .... They are fairly new, They are fine whilst under warranty, They are limited in dealer/specialist retailers and parts aren't as readily available as good old LR..

Now given all this I am looking/considering purchasing one, not to off road but simply as a tug for a caravan as a primary purpose but also to keep the family safe.

Given all this can somone please advise what kind of things to look for and what to make sure the model I look at has. eg ACE has been mentioned and Air Suspension. Also what are the views over LPG conversions ? are they worthwhile etc etc
