Evening all, well after spending 1200 quid this month on a fair few spares, labour and gearbox my Defender has still thrown it back in my face!
Today whilst on route to Newcastle and back (110 miles round trip) I started to hear a squealing from what I thought was the fan belt. It only squealed after backing off the accelerator or on initial acceleration. I have noticed that the bearing on my alternator occasionally squeals (its on the to do list)....So happy days here's me thinking new belt tensioner and replace the alternator or recon the current one........this is when I noticed my main issue!
Coolant was now flowing from between the seams on my expansion tank and on checking my oil filler cap she was breathing fairly hard...you can see where this is going!
My Defender has no white substance around the filler cap.
It has up until now not really used much coolant.
It has a quick puff of black/grey smoke on start up.
My heater matrix seems to work well enough for round North Yorkshire.
Once the vehicle had cooled down I removed the expansion tank cap and saw a small amount of bubbles whilst placing a load on the engine.
I have recently replaced the rocker cover gasket and it is wet again.
My temperature gauge through out todays drive never moved from its normal position (little past 12 oclock)
My hoses and thermostat are warming along with the engine normally.
So cutting to the chase with what I have described, i'm think my head gasket may have gone between cylinder and water jacket. First thing on cards is new expansion tank and cap but has anybody else suffered these symptom's and what was your out come.
Been on google all afternoon but thought asking you lot would be more constructive!........just stripped out my roof liner for a refurb and seal my leaks and this was not on my plans for today....:whoosh:
