Hello.
New to the forum and looking for some friendly advice.
Discovered today a problem which needs attention as I am taking my landy discovery 2 TD (2003) to France this Saturday. She struggled to start which is very ususal as she always starts first time. She eventually started after about 30 seconds. On further inspection I noticed a whining noise coming from the fuel tank area. When I turn the key to position II the whining lasts for 25 seconds then stops and a gurgling sloshing noise follows then all quiet.. Got under the the back end and the whining is coming from within the tank itself. When I turn on the engine the whining continues non stop until I stop the engine. She drives ok - it is the starting that is the problem.
Could this be the fuel pump? Have been looking at ebay and the part is generally titled 'tank fuel pump' part no: WFX000280.
Will need to get this sorted - should I risk buying the part now as I am off on Saturday or could it be another problem area.
Would appreciate some advice.
Cheers

Hi,
1. replace the filter with genuine
2. replace air bleed valve> WJN500110 within the filter housings left outer connection(as u look at it)
3. put ignition on pos II and leave it so 3 mins then start(first time after points 1 and 2)
4. check for oil ingress in ECM red plug(disconnect battery then unplug it)...though this usually gives druveability problems

if after all these will be no improvement then it might be the pump...or the injector seals... the pump is a too important piece to mess around with all kind of replacement parts...u better bite the bullet and buy a genuine one.

Hello.
Thanks sierrafery for the advice. Tried today to start her up and no problem! Last night performed the depressing of the accelerator 5 time and posslbly cleared out any air in the system. Is it normal for the pump to emit a low whining noise when the engine is running? - I have just never noticed it before.
