I have a Series 2 A, suffix A 88 inch. This vehicle is positive earth, I'm buying a new wiring loom and wish to turn it into negative earth. Can anyone give me some advice? With the new loom i am fitting an alternator.

Hi,

If you are fitting an alternator, DO NOT GO POSITIVE EARTH.

I think your ammeter will read the wrong way round, just swap the terminals over.

I'm guessing that you don't have a radio or other music maker ..... but if you do, look for a change over switch. If it hasn't got one, list it on ebay.

Can we assume that you understand the charging circuit for an alternator? Volt meter is best, but ammeter will work, though maybe not recommended.

Baz did day he's converting to neg earth.
If your gonna go to an alty, then the charging circuit will be ok.
You will have trouble with loads of other stuff though, such as, starter, wipers, heater, horn, fuel & temp guage.
You might be able to reverse the wires on the heater motor as smiths bring them both out on the motor, not sure about the starter and the wipers though, the horn might be ok neg earth you'd have to try it, you'd also have to pull a trick or two with the fuel and temp guages.
Oh yeah I'd reccomend not having an ammeter, unless its the remote shunt type, your better with a voltmeter, more reliable and tells you more if you know how to read one.
